Piano Lessons

I teach Piano to suit the students individual needs whether for a fun hobby or to progress through examinations. My piano lessons generally follow Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) grade syllabus which offers a progressive exam structure to develop secure piano techniques and music literacy. I keep the students interests in mind whilst also encouraging different styles to try out such as modern chart, pop, rock and ragtime pieces. I teach right from Preparatory Step Exams right through to Grades 1-8. ABRSM practical exams include choices of set pieces ranging from Classical, Baroque, Romantic, and Contemporary. I teach students all extra exam material including Sight Reading, various Aural exercises, and Scales (including Chromatic, Contrary and Arpeggios). I offer more intensive 2 hour lessons to students during holidays for those who want to push themselves that bit further or for extra study lessons for approaching exam dates. Please phone or email for a friendly chat with any questions you have.

Music Theory

Music Theory is a great way to compliment practical music studies. I find learning to read music essential while studying Practical Piano to help improve and learn new pieces efficiently, quickly and easily. Theory is taught alongside the Practical during lesson times. Full ABRSM Theory training covered following the current syllabus. I prepare for exams with the aid of past exam papers whilst trying to keep theory fun by, where possible, encouraging the use of apps, computer software and flash cards.
